about the site
Basically-Birds was opened on February 25th, 2009, by Damaris "Mashie" D. It's original name was decided on being "Adhoc & a Mint", but Mashie soon abandoned that idea and used the site for a writing listing instead. Feeling that she wasn't ready for offering the time needed for a graphic site, and thinking that her graphic styles and HTML was not yet fully developed, Mashie decided to just have CSS quiz layouts for the popular site Quizilla! available. Soon after, though, Quizilla! changed and HTML along with CSS was no longer available to it's users. Half the internet population was not satisfied with the new look and tools and decided to leave the Q! site and head over to Webs.com, where they built their own groups and communites. Mashie was floating between her school, family, friends, writing and personal life and soon a year and a half passed, and her graphic site was never even mentioned again, Mashie herself seemingly having to forgot about it. She continued on with Adhoc & a Mint and focused on her stories. Last February, she finally decided to open the site she left in the back of her thoughts for a long time. Her graphic making and HTML knowledge had improved immensly over the long months, and she now felt more than ready to start offering her skills to others. After that long barrier of uncertainty was surpassed, there was one other problem - what to name the site? Mashie contemplated fusing the graphic site with her current writing listing one, but decided against it after some speculating. After a while, she thought up the name "The Poppycock Pamphlet", liked the idea, and then made a design for it. Soon thereafter, though, she became sick of the name and looking at the layout (even before it opened) and went on a rampage for a new name. She pulled out of her hat "Barefoot & Big Eyed", but soon disposed of it and started to mix and match more words; "Basically-Barefoot", "Basically Birds & Barefeet", and "Basically-Birds" being some at the top of her list. Seeking ideas and comments from various friends on a forum, she finally picked out "Basically-Birds" and was satisfied. The site slowly started to form in the middle weeks of February, and on the 25th, was opened. Mashie decided on offering layout premades, avatars, tutorials, screencaps, textures, brushes, banners and maybe even more in the future. She has opened a deviantART account for the site as well, where texture packages, brush downloads, and stock scans are available for the DA public. There is also a livejournal community which will harbour all the B-B icons. On November 27, 2009, Basically-Birds officially moved to a new host known as Colour-Theory.
